Part I: Foundations of IT Architecture

In this first part, we lay the groundwork. We answer fundamental questions like “What is IT architecture?” and explore the primary styles and approaches that have shaped software systems over time. We’ll clarify the role of the architect in the IT landscape-what value do architects provide, and how do they differ from designers or developers? We’ll also distinguish IT architecture vs. enterprise architecture, two terms that are related but operate at different scopes within an organization. Finally, we introduce major frameworks (like TOGAF) that many organizations use to guide their architectural practice.

By building a strong foundation in Part I, you will be better prepared to delve into the more advanced topics in subsequent parts. Let’s begin with the very definition and purpose of IT architecture.
